Police call after climbing kids damage Bannockburn schools
12 AugustA number of calls have been made to local police reporting children playing on the roofs of both Bannockburn and St Mary's Primary Schools.
The roof and some fittings at St Mary's Primary and nursery school were badly damaged by youngsters climbing on to the building roof, and smashing a number of tiles.
The kids were seen climbing on the building on Park Drive - and it was later found that roof tiles had been smashed - with light fittings and ceilings also damaged - possibly due to the youngsters running on the roof.
The building has been marked with anti-vandal paint - so any youngsters who were on the roof could have had stained clothing from the black paint.
As well as posing a major threat of injury to themselves, these children run the risk of being held liable for damage to these buildings and those responsible may well end up with criminal charges and a conviction.
This message comes as a 13 year old boy was injured after falling through a school roof in Sauchie.
Community Officer, Constable Forbes Wilson, said: "On this occasion the injuries were not as serious as they could have been, but the next time someone may not be so lucky. These roof structures are not designed to be walked on and while it may seem like fun to climb all over them, it can quickly turn into a tragedy."
"I would ask all parents to ensure their children understand the dangers and ensure that they do not use school roofs as a play ground."
"If anybody observes children congregating or committing any acts of anti-social behaviour in or around schools or buildings in the area, including climbing on roofs, then think of the danger and please contact police immediately."
